FAQ

Common questions.

Does my missionary need to be present to port the number?

No. If the phone plan is in a parent's name (common on family plans), the parent can complete the entire process — including providing the account number and PIN — without the missionary's involvement.

What information do I need to port the number?

You'll need: the phone number, the carrier account number, the account PIN or passcode, the account holder's name (exactly as it appears on the account), and the service address. We walk you through finding each of these for your specific carrier.

How long does the port-in take?

Most ports complete within 3–5 business days. Eligible numbers may port same-day. You'll receive an email confirmation the moment the port is complete.

What happens to the existing carrier plan?

The carrier line is cancelled when the port completes. Any device installment plan (monthly phone payments) continues separately — porting the number doesn't settle phone financing.

Can I port a number that's already been disconnected?

Generally no — the number must be active with the carrier to initiate a port. If the plan was recently cancelled, contact us and we'll check whether recovery is possible.

What carriers does this work with?

All major US carriers: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and most regional/MVNO carriers. FCC law requires all carriers to support porting.

Is the number really safe for the full 2 years?

Yes. The number is held on active carrier-grade infrastructure registered in the national NPAC system. Numbers are only recycled when an account goes inactive — your active MissionJourney account prevents that.

How do I get the number back when they come home?

Log in to your dashboard, click 'My Missionary Is Home,' and we email you the porting credentials. Take those credentials to any carrier — they initiate the port, and FCC law requires it to complete within days.

What if my missionary comes home early?

Contact us and we'll start the port-out process immediately. The timeline is the same regardless of how long the number was held.

Do missionaries qualify for free military carrier suspensions?

No. AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile all restrict free military suspensions to active-duty US military personnel only. Missionary service does not qualify — which is exactly why MissionJourney exists.
